We have been at our current location for nearly a year now. We started with a huge renovation project on the facility to get it ready for Summer Camps last year. Once we finished with the renovation, we opened our doors for Summer Camps and the energy, enthusiasm, and creativity that the kids brought to all of the projects. It was truly a wonderful experience.
With school starting, we shifted our focus to offer after-school programs at the storefront. It didn't take long to realize that we were facing some obstacles with this model. The main obstacle was time, though. Kids and families are so busy during the school year, that it's hard to fit in another activity. After months of advertising, planning, and hoping we began to ponder other alternatives.
The overhead to keep the storefront location going proved to be too much to overcome. This spring we realized that the better model for our business is one where we can be more mobile and meet the kids "On Location" or at their schools. We began to offer after-school programs at some of the local schools and got a very nice reception. From this experience, we began to consider holding our Summer Camps at one of the local schools as well.
We were able to secure a location at Madison Heights Elementary School for our Summer Camps this year, and have begun to move things out of our storefront.
Life in the 21st century is one where you need to constantly adapt to ever-changing situations. We view our year at the store as a true learning experience. What we've learned will hopefully make us a better business and provide better experiences for our digital kids.
Both Kristin and I would like to thank everyone who has participated in the DKW experience with all of our hearts. We have met some truly amazing people through this endeavor and would not trade the experience for anything.
We look forward to seeing you this summer at Madison Heights or at a local school near you next school year!
